Samsung’s original Galaxy Tab was a 7-inch device that was quickly outdone by larger 9- and 10-inch variants. However, Samsung hasn’t forgotten about its first slate. Between the Galaxy Tab 7.0, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and the Galaxy Tab 7.7, the company is no stranger to the 7-inch market. This week, Samsung announced pricing and release information for the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, which is set to replace the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and offers up Android 4.0 at a size that matches the Kindle Fire.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 boasts a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a 7-inch 1024 x 600 LCD, a 3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and HSPA+. The real upgrade here is the addition of IceCream Sandwich, aka Android 4.0, as the Galaxy Tab 2’s predecessor was a Honeycomb (Android 3.0) device. Samsung said today that the device would be in shops on April 22 tagged at $249. The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0’s bigger brother, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 won’t be launching until May 13, but will carry a $399 price tag when it does.
